Weight Loss

One cannot check out of a super market without seeing almost every magazine or periodical proclaiming the newest weight loss program. One is not only assured that they will lose “X” pounds and will drop “X” sizes, but they will do it almost immediately and without much effort. There are whole and very large sections of the book stores seconding these sentiments as well. The American public is bombarded with claims of easy and permanent weight loss continually on television.

Have you ever dieted? How many times have you attempted to lose your weight? As you have already found out, it’s all but impossible to lose weight and keep it off with willpower, discipline, diets and exercise alone. In fact once one reaches the age of 30, it is pretty close to a mathematical impossibility to work out enough to make even a dent in the intake – burn spread. Walking and working out are good, but it seems to be an exercise in futility to lose weight that way. The reason for this is is that the autonomic nervous system in our subconscious mind has a set point. That set point works to keep one from losing weight.

We cannot lose weight and keep it off without changing our behavior. And we can’t make permanent behavioral change in our conscious mind – only our subconscious. Hypnosis is the bridge to our subconscious mind. One overeats for emotional reasons. They over eat because they are sad, worried, stressed or angry. The list goes on and on. These are emotional issues. And emotional issues must be dealt with where they are located -and they are located in our subconscious mind.

An attractive young woman thirty five years of age and about 30 pounds overweight came into my office and wanted hypnotherapy to lose her weight “once and for all”. Like most people she had gradually been putting on this weight every year. She even brought the book with the diet and exercise program that she had been using for about twelve years, and informed me that was going to continue to use it. She said that she wanted “to get thin using this program.” That was the same program that had failed! She was determined to continue to do what had not worked for the last 12 years! She wanted the results of change without making any changes.

If you wish to continue what you’ve been doing, resolutions, determination, diets and trying to work it off, like the young lady above, most likely you will continue to gain about 5.5 to 7.250 per year. If on the other hand, you are serious about losing the weight and keeping it off forever, give me a call for a complimentary session to visit about how hypnosis will work for you.
